Hear ye, hear ye, hear ye,
Voyageur Canoe Tours Come to Perth Beginning June 15th
Step into a Voyageur canoe and within minutes experience the beauty and tranquility of the pure and natural habitat that makes the Perth area so extraordinary.
Ninety minute eco-adventure tours begin at Fiddleheads Bar and Grill, right beside the Big Ben statue in Stewart Park. A guide in voyageur outfit greets guests and escorts the group down to the Tay Basin while providing a short historical walking tour.
After a safety briefing guests will don PFD’s and board a 34 foot authentic
replica of the traditional voyageur canoe.
The tour then continues down the Tay River through historic Perth with the guides enthusiastically weaving their commentary with threads of history and local tales while introducing guests to the abundant wildlife along the shores of the gentle Tay River. Special mention will be given to this years’ celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Rideau Canal which includes the Tay River.
“Heritage Perth is a perfect destination for us due to the town's attention to environmental and historical protection” remarks the Rideau Roundtable’s Rideau Experience coordinator Stew Hamill. “Along with our existing local partners, the Friends of the Tay Watershed and EcoPerth, we are also pleased to partner with Fiddleheads Restaurant, a progressive business with concerns for environmental awareness and ecotourism.”
The overall objective of the tour is to impart knowledge of the local watershed and to help promote environmental awareness. Instructors note the importance of being good stewards of the land and waterways in a fun and educational setting.
Perth mayor John Fenik enthusiastically remarks “An amazing way to see the beauty of heritage Perth is via our spectacular water ways. I encourage everyone to see our town and the surrounding townships by water. It is an experience you will never forget.”
Tours are provided by the Rideau Roundtable through its Rideau Experience program and their staff of highly qualified instructors and guides. All safety equipment is provided and customers will be introduced to paddling and actually take part in paddling the canoe.
