FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 24, 2010

Perth, Ontario, June 24, 2010 – Omya Inc. announced today that at approximately 3:00 pm on Wednesday June 23, 2010 there was a minor release of slurry product from Omya’s production plant located in Perth, Ontario.  The release was caused by the malfunction of a tank level gauge which has since been repaired.

Approximately 10 cubic meters of slurry was released, a portion of which entered the Tay River.  The slurry consists of ground limestone from local quarries and water with trace amounts of an inert, non-reactive grinding aid.

Omya’s slurry product is non-hazardous and approved for use in food packaging.  Given the small amount of product that was released and its non-hazardous nature, the release does not pose a risk to human health or the environment.

Omya’s employees and local authorities responded to the release in a timely manner.  The Town of Perth Water Treatment Department and the Ministry of Environment were both immediately notified of the release and all proper emergency procedures were followed.  There were no injuries.

Omya will conduct a thorough review of the incident and will communicate the results of this review to local officials as soon as the review is complete.
